The dance performance “Blue Blue” is a joint work of five creators who met almost by chance (in fact, brought together by curators Paulius Prievelis and Birutė Bagdonienė), and it does not come from a planned action, but rather from a free interpretive work sharing sound, visual and movement impulses.
Human and non-human bodies moving in space carry out a constant non-verbal polylogue, which is established not only on the stage itself, but also between the stage and the non-stage reality. As if in response to the context of isolation and exclusion, this visually playful work can be read as a multi-stage investigation of the new reality. How free are we to create a relationship and trust, what is beyond masks and screens?
On the other hand, this work can also be read much more simply: as a motor, color and sound narrative, without complicating our daily lives with existential questions.
The artists delve into the analysis of themes of sustainability, ecological noise, self-destruction, which are included in the narrative of this performance. The dance performance seeks to question the concepts of boundaries and distance, the ways in which we approach another being and/or nature.
Choreography, dance, performance, music performance, physical theater, happening – all these disciplines become part of the creative process and creative tools during the narrative of the performance.
The musical instruments used in the performance are completely recycled by one of the creators of the performance, Simonas Nekrošius, who is an interdisciplinary artist, actively involved in the fields of contemporary art, experimental music and sound art. His creative trait is characterized by the principles of “do-it-yourself” and “ready-made” activities, paying great attention to processivity, sustainability and improvisation.
The work pays special attention to disasters, climate change, food security, impact and care. The artistic aspiration is to enrich the work in an interdisciplinary way. Anthropological research becomes the sound of the performance, encouraging movement to become a reflection and contrapuntal communication with the audience.
