Feel-Link (2011)

The duet of young generation dancers and choreographers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius in the dance performance “Feel-Link” explores the inner experiences of two people, caused by various love and relationship experiences. The characters in the performance use free urban dance techniques that help to free the body’s motor skills and at the same time bring the theme of the work closer to the dance values of the young generation.

Choreographers and dancers see connections and resonances between the basis of the musical performance and the idea of the performance itself. The title of the performance is a transformation of the English word “feeling” into the new word “feel-link”, which refers to the theme of the performance: the everyday search for true feelings.

The musical basis of the performance is the interpretation of the work “Feelings” by the American pianist and jazz performer Eunice Kathleen Waymon, also known by her stage name Nina Simone. The synthesis of the text, music and dance language of the work allows us to see the repeated efforts to forget or discover feelings.

“This is our first theatrical work and the first purified street dance performance in the theater space, which has not left anyone indifferent in Lithuania and beyond for five years. We believe that this work will interest both representatives of the younger generation and older dance art lovers,” say the creators, Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius

The work was created by the Urban Dance Theater Low Air with the support of the Arts Printing House program for young artists Open Space’11.

Reviews

"They don't need anything else on stage - just their flexible bodies, their creative approach to street dance on stage (which is now making its way into Lithuania), and the love they radiate for each other. Four stars."
The Herald, Mary Brennan, August 17, 2016
"The performance is dominated by a complete movement, the execution of which is what draws the most attention. Laurynas Žakevičius's half-naked muscular body demonstrates strength and a mastered street dance style. Airida Gudaitė pulsates with fragile, wavy, but often arrogant gestures, facial expressions and movements. This conversation of movement truly takes place subtly and poetically, avoiding direct glances or creating conflicts, with extreme poses becoming the strongest emotional spice."
Monika Jarulytė, kulturpolis.lt 2012-08-28
"A special work by dancers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius, which few performers would be able to replicate. Three stars."
The Scotsman, KELLY APTER, August 16, 2016
"Not only is it a pleasure to watch the dancers' lively, athletic, and trained bodies, it's also a beautiful hip-hop ballet."
Dita Eglīte, journal dance.lv, May 14, 2012
"The street dance performance was captivating not only with the combination of perfect bodies. The play of light (light artist Eugenijus Sabaliauskas) also made a great impression, which sometimes hid, sometimes allowed the audience to see the dancers again."
