Aura

Teacher Waacking

Aura Šriubšaitė – dance teacher, dance performer and student. She started her dance career 10 years ago at Low Air dance school. While learning various street dance styles, she discovered waacking, which Aura found fascinating with its hand plasticity, emotion and elegance. In 2018-2019 she studied contemporary dance at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts. In order to broaden and deepen her knowledge of waacking dance, she has traveled abroad several times to participate in dance battles and workshops: at The Waack off event in Germany, workshops with Chrissy Chou, Archie Burnett; at the All Europe Waacking Festival in France, workshops with Bagsy, Princess Madoki; at the Summer Dance Forever event in the Netherlands, workshops with Boubou, Nubian Nene, and at many other events and seminars. Aura is also actively participating in dance battle events in Lithuania, where she has won several times.

Aura is one of the co-creators and dancers of the Vilnius City Dance Theatre Low Air’s dance performance for (non-)teenagers “me two / We, The Clique”. After the premiere of the performance in August 2021, the company is currently actively performing the performance in foreign and Lithuanian cities, and conducting workshops on the “me two / We, The Clique” method for young people in the regions. For the best performance for children and young people in 2021, the team was awarded the Golden Stage Cross.

Aura is currently studying contemporary dance, with a minor in dance pedagogy, at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

THREE KEY EVENTS:

-In 2017, the Low Air dance school Educational Scholarship was awarded to the school’s most advanced student.

-Being “me two”. The creative process of the dance performance “me two / We, The Clique” by Low Air Dance Theatre required a responsible preparation that cultivated and broadened the understanding of movement.

-Dance studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Contemporary ballet classes are offered as an alternative to classical ballet training. It is designed for dancers with no experience as well as for dancers practicing contemporary dance and other dance styles. Classes will focus on working on balance, stillness and coordination. Together we will look for a personal approach, which will allow us to take a fresh look at ballet technique with a deep tradition. Perhaps the main goal of these classes is to discover the freedom of movement in ballet technique and make it more receptive to other forms of movement, and to open up a wider range of self-expression for those who move, create and dance. Contemporary ballet classes are open to those with a wide range of dance experience and those with no dance experience.

In these contemporary dance classes, teacher Juozas invites you to explore the elements of dance using different contemporary dance techniques, space, your own and the bodies around you. Taking into account the dynamics of the group, the teacher divides the dance lessons into blocks - improvisation (in solo, duet or in group), contemporary dance technique, floorwork technique, standing or ground movement, creative tasks. The classes focus on coordination, body control, physical activity and feeling emotions through movement.

In the contemporary dance classes, dancers will learn the basics of contemporary dance, and develop the ability to feel at ease in space, on the ground and standing up. The classes will not only teach contemporary dance movements, but will also focus on individual and group improvisational and creative tasks (many of them in the form of games), in order to reveal the individuality of the dancers, to develop their creative-compositional thinking, to develop group work skills, to encourage self-confidence. The young dancers will have the opportunity to perform at school and city events and festivals. The aim of the lessons is to introduce children to contemporary dance and its culture, to stimulate their creativity and the courage to improvise.

A 4-year program for young dancers and dance students from all over Lithuania, inviting you to get to know Low Air work processes professionally. The purpose of the program is to improve students' dance, movement language, "toolbox" and develop a high level of skills. Teaching methods: demonstration and practice of urban and contemporary dance techniques, analysis of sound, video and other sources of information, work in groups, creative tasks, observation, presentation and reflection of personal experience, providing feedback. Group work emphasizes the process experienced by each individual dancer. The program includes the language of movement created by Low Air, which is based on the forms of urban and contemporary dance and is the daily training routine of the company's dancers; learning the repertoire of the Vilnius City Dance Theater and providing opportunities to attend Low Air performances. The program is led by current and former Low Air School teachers and theater creators. The program is curated by the artistic director of Low Air Dance Theater Airida Gudaitė.

Classes are designed to meet your body, develop creativity, non-verbal communication skills, body motor functions, emotional and physical health, and at the same time be among others sharing the same space and time. While traveling around the world, we notice that dance unequivocally improves well-being, raises body tone, reduces the feeling of loneliness and destroys age-related stereotypes. Everyday movements can turn into a liberating dance that improves the physical and psychological state.

The dance classes are for complete beginners. In these classes we will learn the fundamental elements of breakdance and how they interact to create a seamless expression. Breiko dance will help you to make friends with your body, to feel free to move in space, on the ground or standing up. Breaking is a very physical and fast-paced dance, so during the class we will strengthen our bodies by learning the basic fundamental movements, breaking them down into smaller parts and learning how to put them back together again. We will focus on the technique of the movements, but in parallel we will also develop the ability to improvise freely and use them as a starting point for further development, both physically and creatively. During the classes we will develop not only the basics of dance and movement, but also social skills, self-confidence, healthy lifestyle and creativity, which become an integral part of a maturing personality. Dancers will have the opportunity to perform at school and city events and festivals.

Waacking is a dance style that comes straight from the Funk and Disco eras – more precisely, it comes from the nightclubs of Los Angeles and got popularised by the legendary TV show „Soul Train“. The first Waacking dancers were creating moves by imitating black-and-white movie stars (such as Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell) and by trying to put all the hand movements, moves, lines and poses of that particular era into a single dance.

Contemporary ballet classes are offered as an alternative to classical ballet training. It is designed for dancers with no experience as well as for dancers practicing contemporary dance and other dance styles. Classes will focus on working on balance, stillness and coordination. Together we will look for a personal approach, which will allow us to take a fresh look at ballet technique with a deep tradition. Perhaps the main goal of these classes is to discover the freedom of movement in ballet technique and make it more receptive to other forms of movement, and to open up a wider range of self-expression for those who move, create and dance. Contemporary ballet classes are open to those with a wide range of dance experience and those with no dance experience.

In the contemporary dance classes, dancers will learn the basics of contemporary dance, and develop the ability to feel at ease in space, on the ground and standing up. The classes will not only teach contemporary dance movements, but will also focus on individual and group improvisational and creative tasks (many of them in the form of games), in order to reveal the individuality of the dancers, to develop their creative-compositional thinking, to develop group work skills, to encourage self-confidence. The young dancers will have the opportunity to perform at school and city events and festivals. The aim of the lessons is to introduce children to contemporary dance and its culture, to stimulate their creativity and the courage to improvise.

A 4-year program for young dancers and dance students from all over Lithuania, inviting you to get to know Low Air work processes professionally. The purpose of the program is to improve students' dance, movement language, "toolbox" and develop a high level of skills. Teaching methods: demonstration and practice of urban and contemporary dance techniques, analysis of sound, video and other sources of information, work in groups, creative tasks, observation, presentation and reflection of personal experience, providing feedback. Group work emphasizes the process experienced by each individual dancer. The program includes the language of movement created by Low Air, which is based on the forms of urban and contemporary dance and is the daily training routine of the company's dancers; learning the repertoire of the Vilnius City Dance Theater and providing opportunities to attend Low Air performances. The program is led by current and former Low Air School teachers and theater creators. The program is curated by the artistic director of Low Air Dance Theater Airida Gudaitė.

The dance classes are for complete beginners. In these classes we will learn the fundamental elements of breakdance and how they interact to create a seamless expression. Breiko dance will help you to make friends with your body, to feel free to move in space, on the ground or standing up. Breaking is a very physical and fast-paced dance, so during the class we will strengthen our bodies by learning the basic fundamental movements, breaking them down into smaller parts and learning how to put them back together again. We will focus on the technique of the movements, but in parallel we will also develop the ability to improvise freely and use them as a starting point for further development, both physically and creatively. During the classes we will develop not only the basics of dance and movement, but also social skills, self-confidence, healthy lifestyle and creativity, which become an integral part of a maturing personality. Dancers will have the opportunity to perform at school and city events and festivals.
