Jazz
JazzJazz is an African-American dance that has been around for more than a century. It encompasses many dance styles from the 1920s and 1930s, including the Charleston, Tap, Black Bottom, Shimmy, Suzie-Q, and many more. Also, jazz is not only a dance of countless steps and combinations, but also an enormous freedom of improvisation, just like jazz music itself. In jazz classes, dancers learn the basics of authentic jazz dance, including various jingles, jumps, spins and positions. There is also a strong emphasis on movement in space, on combining movements, on constantly trying to merge and become one with the music, to discover one’s individuality. We will improvise, find our own jazz and discover how this dance has changed over time and what it is now.
