Rainbow (2015)

Performative street dance performance is created in certain urban spaces. The authors draw attention to the present and past of public spaces, look back at places that have been forgotten by globalization, touched by renovation, reconstruction or other physical changes, and take a new look at processes in cities.

For a long time, street dance styles have also been formed in public spaces, and one of the main functions of dance was the opportunity to express oneself and create simple entertainment for passers-by. That is why street dance and hip-hop culture are an integral part of public spaces, helping to maintain contact with the community.

For example, the performance in Utena took place in the square near the sculpture “Rainbow”, which was nicknamed “shish-kebab” by the city people. The place where the rainbow-shish-kebab stands has a past that was marked by death. After World War II, expelled Russian soldiers were buried there.

The dancers perceive the interpretation of public spaces as a means of contemporary art, which can be used to create a dialogue between present and past objects or certain circumstances that occur between public spaces and the artist. Its result could be the formation of a new approach to public spaces.

The performance can be performed in various spaces and can be adapted to specific places and circumstances.
