Founded in 2012, Low Air is Lithuania’s first Urban Dance Theater. It is known for introducing new dance syntheses and forms to the Lithuanian contemporary dance scene and seeks to reveal the artistic potential of urban dance.
<…> It is commendable that these street dancers, whom we can also call creators, dared and still dare to adapt street dance to the professional dance theater stage. At present, it is the only dance theater that expressively and boldly promotes the aesthetics of street dance and implements it on the theater stage. <…> K. Apanavičiūtė, 2016-06-03, M-puslapiai
The theater’s repertoire includes six performances, two Golden Stage Cross awards, Borisas Dauguvietis’ Earring for successful searches for new forms of stage expression combining street dance and theater in performances, and pedagogical activities that are changing the face of contemporary dance in Lithuania.
By experimenting and combining different dance styles, choosing themes for productions and educating young dancers on stage, Low Air is developing and gathering a community of creative professionals around it, seeking to take a new step forward by strengthening the offering of contemporary performing arts in Lithuania.
See a few ways your support can become a reality:
Low Air Theater aims to create opportunities for talented young and established Lithuanian artists and performers to participate in ongoing creative activities, opening up opportunities for them to remain in Lithuania and pursue their professional careers, gain the necessary knowledge and practical experience, and undertake internships at Low Air.
Low Air experiments by combining different dance styles, choosing themes for its productions, and educating young dancers on stage.
Low Air Theatre’s productions regularly feature 10 of the most talented, award-winning dancers who have gained experience at prestigious international art schools. The theater’s work has received international recognition and has been nominated for and awarded the highest theater awards in the country.
During the season, 30% of the theater’s performances are presented abroad.
Low Air strives to take care of the physical and material well-being of its dancers, helping them to successfully overcome the challenges they face in their professional and personal lives. You can contribute too.
Here are a few ways your support can make a difference:
An open movement of professional teachers, dancers, and dance enthusiasts, building their activities around community, mutual respect, and the belief that every lesson, every performance, and every dance battle is a constant opportunity to become better dancers, people, and members of society.
Through discounts to performances, free dance lessons and lectures, integration programs for children from orphanages, bullying and violence prevention events, and dance workshops in prisons, Low Air Theater seeks to open up, include, and positively influence the Lithuanian community.
The Borisas Dauguvietis Earring Award was presented for the successful search for new forms of stage expression combining street dance and theater in performances, as well as for educational activities that are changing the face of contemporary dance in Lithuania, inspiring the theater to continue its mission – to raise awareness of Lithuanian street dance culture through the creation of cultural communities, dance performances, shows, learning opportunities, and various social programs accessible to everyone.
