About LOW AIR

LOW AIR reikšmę galima rasti kažkur tarp nuolatinio paradokso (tarsi oras būtų žemas) ir nuolatinio troškulio patirti ir suprasti realybę (tarsi oro būtų maža). Pirmasis atspirties taškas mus verčia išgyventi neatitikimus, kvestionuoti normas ir mąstymo būdus; antrasis – visuomet jausti kūrybinį troškulį, atsiduoti paieškoms ir tuo pačiu suprasti, kad esame tik laimingos amžino kūrybinio ieškojimo dalelės.

About LOW AIR

The meaning of LOW AIR can be found somewhere between a constant paradox (as if the air was low) and a constant thirst to experience and understand reality (as if there were little air). The first starting point forces us to experience inconsistencies, question norms and ways of thinking; the second – to always feel a creative thirst, to devote ourselves to searching and at the same time understand that we are only happy particles of an eternal creative search.

Vision

We believe that dance is a living, dynamic social action — a continuous process of relationship, communication, and transformation that not only changes our interpersonal connections but also rethinks our interaction with the environment, technology, and other living systems.

Low Air vision is to strengthen the power of dance to inspire, educate, and connect by creating a space where the joy of creation is accessible to everyone, regardless of their identity, experience, or context.

Mission

Our mission is to promote awareness of hip-hop and contemporary dance as an interdisciplinary, socially engaged art form that combines body and idea. We work through creation, education, co-creation initiatives, and international collaboration to make dance accessible to everyone, regardless of race, nationality, identity, or beliefs.

Goals

Expanding the accessibility of dance – increasing the number of people involved in dance, regardless of their age, experience, or social status.

To deepen the understanding of dance – for both amateurs and professionals – by revealing the benefits of dance for the body, mind, and soul.

To strengthen the appreciation and visibility of dance as a socially relevant art form in the cultural landscape of Lithuania.

To create a space for interaction where dance acts as an open practice that promotes community and transformation, connecting not only people but also other organisms, technologies, and the environment, thus empowering both the reflective individual and dynamic communities.

Strategy

Promote professional dance through performances, education, and interdisciplinary projects.

Create continuous learning platforms for everyone from beginners to professionals.

Implement programs that reduce social exclusion through art.

Ensure the employment of artists, promote their growth and international visibility.

Actively develop audiences – not only in major cities, but also in regions.

Priorities

Create conditions in which dance creators can establish themselves, be visible, gain employment opportunities, and grow as professionals.

Address issues of physical and financial accessibility to cultural services in order to reduce cultural exclusion.

Ensure high quality in education, performance, and co-creation.

Promote dance as a catalyst for social change by creating an open, sensitive, and creatively active society.

Values

Our creative and educational activities are based on strong values that determine not only what we do, but also how we do it:

Respect – for every body, voice, story, and experience;

Responsibility – for our actions on stage and beyond, for our interaction with communities, the city, and the times we live in.

Professionalism – consistently cultivated mastery based on continuous exploration, openness, and learning.

Creativity – as a constant transformation: we create spaces for ideas that arise between disciplines, between the street and the theater.

Sustainability – caring for the living and the non-living, for people and what lies beyond them. We think of longevity not only as duration, but as the vitality of relationships, materials, and ideas in a world where everything influences everything else.

LOW AIR team

Founders

Thanks to the consistent work and efforts of Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius, founders of LOW AIR and one of the most successful performing arts organizations in Lithuania, urban dance has been included in higher education arts programs. These efforts not only transfer important knowledge and skills, but also fill a gap related to the changing expression of movement and pedagogical competence faced by future dance professionals, fostering a new understanding of contemporary movement and creative expression.

Low Air Educational Scholarship

Every year, the Vilnius City Dance Theater and School Low Air awards educational scholarships to the most promising and talented dancers at the school. This is not only a symbolic recognition of their long-term work and creative growth, but also real support for their further development – participation in international dance camps, seminars, or preparation for studies.
The scholarships are awarded during the "The great event of the year" – an annual dance composition evening – with the aim of encouraging dancers to be creative, learn about the specifics of the performing arts, and grow as artists. This is a long-standing tradition that bridges the gap between dreams and opportunities.

Dance company and co-creators

After presenting their first creative work adapted for the theater stage in 2011—the urban dance performance Feel-Link—the duo felt the need to continue on the path of professional creativity. In 2012, dancers and choreographers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius founded Lithuania's first Urban Dance Theater, which aims to reveal the artistic potential of expanded urban dance and present it to professionals and lovers of the performing arts.
