Povilas Jurgaitis is a contemporary dance artist, performer, creator and dance educator residing in Vilnius. He graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Lithuania in 2023 with a degree in contemporary dance and additional studies in dance pedagogy. In 2025, he graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and Vilnius University with a master’s degree in dance and movement therapy.
He went to Reykjavik with the Erasmus exchange program and studied at the National University of Arts. In recent years, he has appeared at such international festivals as “New Baltic Dance”, “Contempo”, “Gaida” and collaborated with “Granhoj Dans”, “Šeikos Šokio teatras”, “MMLAB”, “Be kompanijos”. He has worked with such choreographers as: Nicolas Cantillon, Pietro Marullo, Vittoria de Ferrari Sapetto, Liza Baliasnaja, Vytis Jankauskas, Andrius Katinas, Giedrė Kirkilė, Palle Granhøj.
In his current artistic practice, Povilas is interested in human dependence on technological devices, when they directly merge with the physical body and create new expressions of identity, moving away from our usual concepts of the naturalness of the body. In addition to his artistic activities, Povilas curates the contemporary dance education project “Observations” for teenagers.
THREE KEY EVENTS:
– First visit to lindyhop and solo jazz classes at the then “Hoppers” (now “Whatajazz”) studio and first competition win at the “Lindyhop classic couples” event.
– Contemporary dance and pedagogy studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
– Dance-movement therapy studies, searching for the healing power of dance.
