“Sisters” is a contemporary dance performance about sisters and sisterhood. It is a tender story about a bond we do not choose, yet one that can remain among the closest and most important throughout our lives. As they navigate societal, family, and personal changes together, a sister becomes a kind of “keeper of memories”—someone who shares stories, remembers the same faces, recognizes joys, pains, and unspoken truths, bears witness to our shared growth, and reminds us of who we were and who we have become.
On stage, dancers, electronic music, and texts from the creative team’s personal archives reveal the various layers of the sisters’ relationship and its evolution. The anticipation of a sister’s birth gives way to childlike togetherness, which is later replaced by tension, a lack of sharing, and a failure to communicate—and these, in turn, by a sense of security forged through shared experiences and memories. By embodying these transformations through dance, the dancers on stage create their own sisterhood—not bound by blood ties, but by a community forged through shared creativity and formative experiences. A community whose bond can serve as inspiration for those seeking connection or building their own communities beyond the confines of the theater.
