Low Air + Vaiva Paukštė | Contemporary dance performance SISTERS | Culture night 2026

“Sisters” is a contemporary dance performance featuring eighteen dancers that explores the themes of sisters and sisterhood. In the performance, choreographer Vaiva Paukštė explores the bond between sisters and the relationship with one’s sisters, which—though not a choice—can remain one of the closest and most important throughout one’s life. As she navigates social, family, and personal changes, a sister can become a kind of “keeper of memory”—a person who shares stories, remembers the same faces, recognizes joys, pains, and silences, and bears witness to her own growth and that of her sisters or brothers, as well as to becoming the person you are today.

Dancers, electronic music, and texts from the creative team’s personal archives reveal on stage the most diverse aspects of the sisters’ relationship and its evolution: the anticipation of a sister’s birth gives way to childhood togetherness, which is replaced by tension, lack of sharing, and miscommunication, and these, in turn, by the security created by shared experience and memory. By dancing these shifts and exploring the sisters’ relationship from a wide range of perspectives, the dancers create their own sisterhood on stage: not a community bound by blood ties, but one united by shared creativity and nurturing experiences. A community on stage whose connection can serve as an example and inspiration for those seeking and creating communities beyond the theater.
