About the workshops:

IANNES BRUYLANT
Iannes Bruylant was born in Ghent, Belgium. Until the age of 21, he combined a high-level gymnastics career (ranked in the top 5 in Belgium) with a bachelor’s degree in medicine at Ghent University in Belgium. After completing his studies, he joined the Dancer/Creator bachelor’s program at ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands. As a dancer, he has worked and performed with the Jo Strømgren Company, Nagelhus Schia Productions, Panta Rei Danseteater, and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. Works featuring his own choreography have been presented in Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, and Germany, and he himself has won the prestigious Hannover International Choreography Competition.

About the workshop:
The workshop will be based on contemporary dance floor techniques, with a focus on relaxation and releasing weight into the floor. We will begin with a short warm-up inspired by release technique and somatic exercises, as these help release unnecessary tension. The main theme of the workshop is “How to waste less energy and use momentum and relaxation to control movement.”
The workshop will consist of coordination exercises and groundwork techniques in space. We will then learn longer combinations, integrating previously learned elements and focusing on the continuity of movement. One of my main goals is to create a supportive, positive, and growth-oriented atmosphere.

KEREN BEN SHACHAR
A contemporary dancer and choreographer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. During and after her studies at ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands and The Maslool training program in Israel, she worked with various choreographers and artists before becoming a co-founder of Lazy Susan & Co. In this company, Keren is actively involved as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Her interest in floor technique and improvisation led her to participate in several months-long Flying Low / Passing Through intensives with the technique’s creator, David Zambrano. In addition to her own performances, Keren also teaches professional dancers in various companies, studios, and dance academies, where she often combines her Flying Low knowledge with explosive and acrobatic movements.

About the workshop:
During the workshop, we will explore elements designed to examine our relationship with the floor. We will work on sliding, rolling, and running, and experiment with new movement sequences. These elements will be integrated into dance combinations inspired by the Flying Low technique. We will explore how to combine softness and precision while dancing across different levels (floor, mid-air, standing), and we will seek ways to transform limitations into new modes of movement. Once we have mastered the movement structures, we will work with different speeds and directions in space, increase the complexity of the movements, and incorporate elements of soft acrobatics.
About the Flying Low technique:
This technique was created and developed by David Zambrano. Flying Low classes focus primarily on the dancer’s relationship with the ground. Simple movement sequences are used, incorporating breathing, speed, and the distribution of energy throughout the body. This helps activate the connection between the core and the joints, allowing for more efficient movement between different heights and maintaining stability.
