PŪGA Dance Festival | December 28–30, 2022
As the holidays approach, many of us look forward to snow, which brightens up the darkest time of the year. And even a light snowstorm, if we’re safely at home with loved ones, isn’t scary—it’s cozy. But what if the weather isn’t great, and you want to get out of the house?
Immerse yourself in “Pūga” from December 28–30 at beloved cultural venues in the heart of Vilnius:
Program:
December 28, 6:00–7:30 p.m., at the Low Air Dance School
LOW AIR CHRISTMAS. DANCE + COMMUNITY
LOW AIR CHRISTMAS. DANCE + COMMUNITY
This year, the festival will kick off with a dance improvisation session that brings everyone together to move to the rhythm of dance. The term “improvisation,” often used in the dance community, will be the main focus of the evening—during the session, movement will be created “here and now,” listening to the DJ, observing the surroundings, and watching one another.

December 28, 9:00–10:00 PM, Lukiškių Prison 2.0
PREMIERE: STREET DANCE PERFORMANCE “VYRSMAS”
“A sensitive, open heart may seem like a weakness to ‘normal’ people—those who have simplified themselves, traded their authenticity for acceptability—especially men in Lithuania. Thoughts constantly swirl in my head—what, after all, is normal? If I am just an empty shell, full of nothing? What is the value of existence if I am not in it?” asks the show’s creator, Marius Eidrigevičius.

DANCE PERFORMANCE “ME TWO / SAVOJ KRŪVOJ”
A dance performance that has earned critical and public acclaim for its bold, sincere, and moving stories, as well as its exceptional music and set design.
The dramaturgy of the performance “me two / Savoj krūvoj” is based on the personal experiences of a group of young dancers related to power dynamics, the formation of LGBTQ+ identity, sexual harassment, and the abuse of power toward young people. This encourages belonging to “one’s own circle” and sharing. Audiences are invited to view adolescence from the perspective of an observer, parent, teacher, or decision-maker, and to reflect on the boundaries of power in interpersonal and intergenerational relationships.

A PLATFORM FOR DIALOGUE: UKRAINIAN AND LITHUANIAN CREATIVE WORKS
A PLATFORM FOR DIALOGUE: UKRAINIAN AND LITHUANIAN CREATIVE WORKS
Presentation of Lithuanian creative works: young artists Marius Eidrigevičius, Ema Senkuvienė, and Greta Snitkutė will present a sketch of the performance “Truth or Dare,” which aims to draw attention to the collective subconscious of the older generation, their attitude toward the (un)willingness to change, and the importance of change in society. “In the performance, we will play the well-known game ‘Truth or Dare” and invite the audience to join in. But what is courage? Does courage require truth? And does truth?” ask the creators of the performance.
Presentation of Ukrainian works:
*a short dance piece titled “Mriya,” which explores what happens to dreams during wartime and what we are willing to do to preserve them. The creators ask rhetorically: “War forces you to flee, leaving everything behind—what would you take if you had only an hour to pack your things and leave? Your computer? Your children’s clothes? A drill? A hammer? And your dreams? You’d probably think of them last. It’s not a matter of survival, is it?”
*Premiere of a short dance film. The dance film “Tell Me – Де Ти?” tells the story of the filmmakers’ war experiences in Ukraine. In the film, four dancers delve into the difficult emotions and extreme states left behind by war, expressing them through dance, poetry, and visual storytelling.
An informal discussion with the creators of the dance pieces and the dance film will follow the screenings.
Free admission. Registration required: https://lowair.lt/sokio-festivalis-puga/

PROVE YOUR FLOW | ALL-STYLES Dance Battles + Festival Closing
The festival will close with all-styles dance battles, where dancers, drawing on different dance styles, will fill the space with an authentic flow of movement. Through improvisation, they will reveal the techniques of various street dance styles and express their identities through dance.
Inviting the audience to join the dance celebration, we’ll extend the evening with a party that will last as long as we want.
