Locking
Locking (or Campbellock) is one of the first street dance styles, born in the 1970s in Los Angeles. The beginning of this style is completely unexpected. Its creator, Don Campbell, was not even a dancer at first. He just loved to move, enjoy music and express himself. While trying to learn the most popular dances of that era, such as the “Robot Shuffle”, some of the movements simply did not work for him. So he would freeze in place – as if “locking” his body. This involuntary action became the beginning of a new dance style – Locking. Don did not strive to be perfect – he simply was himself and here is the essential message of the locking dance style, which lives on to this day – to be yourself and not be afraid to experiment. These days, Locking can be seen in various performances, dance events, music videos and elsewhere. This dance style lives according to Don Campbell’s philosophy, is constantly growing and developing – and YOU can become a part of this history.
